Introduction

Set in post apocalyptic America, Fallout 3 is a game full of  mutated animals, ghouls, robots and scarce survivors. This game is simply amazing. The world is destroyed and uses the same bleak colours through the whole game. The aura of the war is always lingering over your shoulder, burnt down houses and raiders are everywhere and you never seem to get away from the action. You play as a “nameless” protagonist who comes from Vault 101. During the war, all those who could afford it payed for a space in a vault where they would be safe from destruction. Most people left the vaults after the war but vault 101 remained where it was. Being told lies about the outside world, they lived there for decades.

The world in Fallout 3 is ridiculous. Their are audiotapes everywhere, which tell the stories and lives of the people of the wasteland. It seems Bethesda spent along time creating the lives of characters who you won’t even see, and I say “Well Played” because this adds to the creepy tone of the game. From vault dwellers who were experimented on as test subjects to children who fled from their vaults and live in a cave with each other, this game is fantastic.

The gameplay is great and a new targeting system called “V.A.T.S” (Vaulttec.Assisted.Targeting.System) freezes time and allows you to choose specific body parts to shoot at with different percentage chances to hit. Very clever and interesting.
